Legal
Terms of Service
Effective July 2026
1. Acceptance of these terms
COI Shield is a software service that helps general contractors track subcontractor certificates of insurance. By creating an account or using the service you agree to these terms on behalf of yourself and, where applicable, the company you represent. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. The service
COI Shield stores certificates you and your subcontractors upload, uses AI to extract coverage details from them, evaluates those details against requirements you configure, and sends reminder emails on your behalf. We work hard to keep extraction accurate, but AI output can contain errors — you are responsible for reviewing flagged items and for your own compliance decisions.
3. Not insurance advice
COI Shield is a tracking tool, not an insurance broker, agent or legal advisor. Nothing in the service constitutes insurance, legal or professional advice, and a “compliant” status does not guarantee that a subcontractor's coverage is valid, sufficient or in force. Consult your broker or counsel for coverage decisions.
4. Subscriptions and billing
New accounts start with a 7-day free trial that requires no credit card. Paid plans are billed monthly or annually through our payment provider, named in section 9; we never store card numbers ourselves. Plans are limited by the number of active subcontractors. You can upgrade, downgrade or cancel at any time — cancellation stops future charges and your account keeps working until the end of the period you paid for. Every payment is refundable in full for 14 days, no reason required; see our Refund Policy.
5. Acceptable use
You agree to upload only documents you have the right to share, to use subcontractor contact details only for legitimate compliance communication, and not to attempt to breach, probe or overload the service or access another company's data. We may suspend accounts that violate these rules.
6. Your data
You retain ownership of everything you upload. Data is stored on Supabase infrastructure with row-level security separating each company's records. You can export your data, and you can request deletion of your account and its data at any time. See our Privacy Policy for details.
7. Limitation of liability
The service is provided “as is.” To the maximum extent permitted by law, COI Shield is not liable for indirect or consequential damages, including losses arising from claims involving subcontractors, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
8. Changes and contact
We may update these terms as the service evolves; material changes will be announced by email or in the app before they take effect. Questions? Write to info@coi-shield.com.
9. Who you are contracting with
COI Shield operates and supplies this service. You can reach us at info@coi-shield.com. Payments are processed by Creem (Armitage Labs OÜ), which acts as the merchant of record — Creem is the seller on your invoice and is responsible for collecting and remitting any applicable sales tax or VAT.
